Is it better to spend money on a sport or a personal trainer?

I bought a gym membership but I’m not getting much out of it. I do the stair master and random things without a plan and after several months I feel better but no real results. I just started taking ice skating lessons which are really expensive, with the same amount of money I”m spending on it I could hire a really professional personal trainer. Which do you think is better – getting a personal trainer or continuing with the ice skating?

Well it looks like you have a lot of money to blow that’s for sure.

The added benefits of a personal trainer is that they will set to achieve your goals and set you on the right track.

You should never go to the gym and just wing. Write a plan and stick to it so my personal Opion is personal trainer.

But heck do what you get the most fulfillment and joy out of.

If you want to be a journalist, why are you going to a college without the degree program. That means to me you really don’t want to be a jounalist.

What you need is a class on Goal Setting. I recommend Zig Ziglar. Only 3% of Americans really have goals. Funny how only 3% of Americans consider themselves having reached their goals.

Also, the Army has journalists and you can learn Journalism while getting paid to study it and have experience.

How to prepare for first 10 mile run in one week?

I’m participating in a 10 mile race in 11 days after posting this message. I have no experience running long distance, but I stay in generally good shape by playing basketball and other sports regularly, but rarely to aerobic burnout.

My only goal is to complete the course without stopping or walking. What‘s a good day by day workout plan I can do over the course of the next week and a half to build my conditioning while not burning myself before the event?

admin answers:

I admire your determination first..Since you are in good shape and you’re pretty active in basketball, you wont be having problems running 10 miles physically…But the factor which will kill you to hell while running is BREATHING..So If you train in exercises which increases lung power, you can easily do it..Try this routine..It did wonders to me..

Day 1 :

           1.Brisk walk a mile
2. Stretch a lot for thighs,calves..(1st session)
3. Start a slow jog..dont think anything..If possible, sing your fav song inside..Just concentrate on a rythm..nothing else..dont think how far you’ve covered..how far you have to run..JUST CONCENTRATE ON YOUR RHYTHM
4. When you find yourself impossible to breath, stop running..
5. Repeat the stretching exercise said above..
6. Do Hindu squats 30X3 sets which is a great exercise to increase your lung power(Google it If you dont know the exercise)
7. Start jogging again(2nd session) again, just concentrate on your rhythm..nothing else..
8. Repeat step 5 and 6 and jog again which should complete 3 sessions..
The 3 sessions should cover 10 miles..So each session should be 3-4 miles run..

Day 2 : walk a mile
Stretch as said above
jog for only a mile
Do hindu push-ups 30X3 (Google It If you dont know)
Sprint a 100 meters with combination of hindu push-ups
Stretch again and relax..
Day 3 : repeat day 1

Day 4: Repeat day 2

Follow this alternatively and you’ll thank me for the results..

Do you know what the difference between weightlifting, powerlifting and bodybuilding is?

I do but im not sure people on here do.
WEIGHTLIFTING is an olympic sport that consists of 2 lifts.
clean and jerk, and, snatch.
you win by lifting the most weight
POWERLIFTING is not an olmpic sport and some people actually think they can say its not a sport at all. It consists of 3 lifts.
squat, benchpress, and, deadlift
you win by lifting the most weight
BODYBUILDING is where guys/girls try to make themselves have big lean bodies. not a sport.
you win by looking good.
.
Did you know that?

admin answers:

To be honest there isnt much difference actually at all…
No matter what your goal is you’re still gonna be doing sets. Doing reps, and lifting iron. Weightlifting is a universal word for iron being lifted. You shoul’ve said the difference of powerlifting and bodybuilding. Weight lifting is like saying base ball, not knowing whether your training to hit or to field.

Powerlifting is a olympic sport idiot.
Bodybuilding is a sport idiot.
What is wrong with your sources man? Your an idiot.

How come Yahoo! keeps the martial arts category in the Sports section?

I mean, the UFC is a sport, but to some people, martial arts is more than just learning it to go into a ring and beat somebody up. That just fuels my argument that Yahoo! answers should change their set-up to where the UFC is in the sports section but also differentiate the martial artist who feel deeper about their martial art than just for competitions sake.

admin answers:

Most people don’t know the difference between “Combat Sports” and “Martial Arts”

Martial Arts literally means “Mars’ Arts” (Roman god of War) meaning “Arts of War” (war has no rules) and are meant for defending your self against anything from unarmed attacks to knife attacks etc and focus on hurting your enemy rather than “knocking them out” and the difference between knocking some one out and hurting them is a ko is putting them unconscious to stop them while hurting is defined as maiming, crippling, torturing or killing your enemy to stop them, also all martial arts train in striking and grappling some train more in one area than others but they all have both (do you know of any I don’t…).

Combat Sports only resemble martial arts but differ in goals and tend to focus on only one part of fighting like boxing (striking) or wrestling (grappling) while some like mma train both. Combat Sports can be seen as descendants of martial arts because they only look like them but focus on entirely different goals which include not maiming or killing your opponent, being a good sport, scoring points (which doesn’t happen in combat) and often obeying a referee and many other aspects. Its basically using Arts of War for non war methods which seem s redundant in the same context but good as its own thing.

The main problems is people overlap the 2 without knowing about it and knowledge is key.

Combat sports include but are not limited to the to-
Boxing (came from the traditional system “Pugilism” in Britain)
Muay Thai (came from the traditional system “Muay Boran”)
Sanshou (combines many different forms of King Fu into sport)
Savate (comes from French street fighting memethods
Japanese Kickboxing (came from karate + muay thai)
American Kickboxing (karate & boxing)
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (derived from Judo)
Judo (some have a self defence part) (derived from Japanese Jujutsu)
Many types of Wrestling (catch, freestyle, greco-roman, shoot etc.)
Knockdown Karate (most have a self defence part)
Competition Karate (some have a self defence part)
Mixed Martial Arts (the sport not just mixing styles for other reasons)

I believe that there should be a seperate category for both “Matrial Arts” and “Combat Sports” but this will not happen untill people understand there is a difference between the two

admin answers:

I have been coaching youth soccer for a few years and I have to teach this every year. The proper way to kick a ball is to use your instep (laces of the shoe). Do not toe poke the ball.

First you need to have a good approach that is at a slight angle and not straight on to the ball. As you approach the ball set/plant the non kicking leg next to and just behind the ball and make sure you have a full follow through with the kicking leg. This will drive the ball up into the air.

If you want to make a cross from the left or right touchline/sideline you need to turn the hip and move it toward the center of the field.

Another thing to get some power behind the ball is to come off your planted leg as you follow through and land on your kicking leg.

The biggest thing is practice, practice, practice.

Look at the following link for tips on kicking and other soccer skills.

I know that it’s not a goal, but what happens next? Does that team get to re-kick, or does the other team get possession?

Yes, a keeper is just like any other player on the field. The rules state that ONE player must be distinguished as the one who can HANDLE the ball while in his own penalty area. Other than that he can dribble all the way to the opponents goal and score if he wants. Same as any other player.

How can I properly exercise this summer?

I am 16. I have always been “skinny”, but never very athletic. I don’t play any sports, because I’m not skilled enough. This summer, I want to become athletically fit, and maybe start something like cross country next year (or more realistically, the year after that). I need to know what I should be doing, and how to do it. I figure that I should start running, but I am new to this, so I need your advice. That’s my goal for this summer. And also, does running do anything to help with your abs, or will I have to use another method for that? I am going to go for a six-pack too. =D Thanks for any help.

admin answers:

If you are going to get physically fit, I would start with walking. It has less wear and tear on all your joints and muscles. Also this will give you time to see how fit you are already. Don’t forget you are young and this should help. Start maybe 15 minutes a day walking. If this is no biggie, the next day do 30 minutes. Keep increasing until you see this is getting tough. When it does get tougher do this until it is easy and then keep increasing the time or start jogging or running. Also don’t forget how important it is to stretch out first, especially if you are going to run and also to keep up a lot of water so you don’t get dehydrated. You should also eat a good amount of protein. If you are vegan or vegetarian this can still be accomplished with beans or protein powders etc. As far as your abs go, if you work out in general you will increase lean muscle mass everywhere, but you could do some crunches and things of that nature to move it along faster. Finally I want to say to you that you said that I am not skilled enough. I don’t think that is correct. You can do almost anything you set your mind to as long as you want it hard enough and work towards it. Have a great summer!

To do what you are looking to do you have to set priorities, understand that school work should be the bigger aspect then sports. It can be done but you have to have a plan to do both at their best. Just as basketball takes a lot of hard work so does your schooling, making sure you have time for both and set goals to accomplish them with a good scheduling routine is the best.

What are some tips to singing high notes / vibrato / breathing well?

admin answers:

As far as healthy vibrato, the key is not trying to make it. If your sound is open and free, it will come naturally. Doing anything physically to affect the vibrato sound will only set your singing back in the long run ie: shaking your belly or jaw. A good way to practice your breathing is to lay on your back. It’s almost impossible to breath improperly when laying down. You’ll notice that your stomach rises, and not your chest. You’re using your diaphragm. This is ideal for singing and the better you get that into your muscle memory, the better off you’ll be.
Breathing and placement will alter drastically depending on what type of singing you’re looking to do, pop, classical, jazz, musical theater… Etc. Honestly, if you can afford it, voice lessons will go a long way in helping you achieve your goal. I used to stick my nose up at them, but they really can be invaluable. Especially if the instructor really understands vocal pedagogy and your personal goals as a singer. Hope this was helpful! Luck!

admin answers:

When you are doing badly you probably start getting frustrated because you feel like your behind and there is no longer a way to win, or there is only a small chance. Instead of getting frustrated when you are behind try setting a smaller goal then winning, but maybe a goal to get the next shot in, or at least score a certain amount of points even if you don’t win. Try to stay positive and think positive like “there will always be another shot to get it right.”

What are some good ways to start off toning my whole body. Really NOT worried about losing any weight. I want to go straight to toning! Is there anything I should be eating to speed the process up?? Thanks

admin answers:

“I really need to get toned up.” I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard that. You’ve probably said it a million times…heck, I’ve said and I even know better. What I’m talking about is the idea of ‘toning’ your body. Most people think that toning means getting more definition and firmer muscles. And how do you get more definition? By doing more reps with lighter weight, of course! But what you may not know is that this idea of toning the muscles is only a myth.

What ‘Toning’ Really Means

So what is toning? The word tone simply describes the state of your muscles. When at rest, your muscles are in a constant state of partial contraction in order to be ready for action. The ‘tone’ of your muscles is involuntary, so you can’t change it by lifting weights a certain way.

Over the years, people have taken the word ‘tone’ and redefined it to mean how lean we are–how defined our muscles appear. In fact, it’s even a gender specific word sometimes–women go to the gym to ‘tone up’ while men go to the gym to lift weights. Know what? Those are the exact same things!

The truth is, you’re limited as to what you can really change about your muscles. In a nutshell, this is what your muscles can do:

1. Grow larger and/or stronger
2. Shrink smaller and/or get weaker

You can’t make a muscle longer (without surgery) and you can’t etch it into a certain shape or look. If your goal is to see your muscles, your goal isn’t toning–it’s losing body fat. And, whether you’re a man or woman, wanting to bulk up or slim down, you’ll do the same kinds of exercises and training methods. The difference lies in the weights, reps and sets you’ll do, as well as how many calories you take in (more if you’re building muscle, less if you’re trying to lose fat).

You may be wondering why it matters if you believe in toning or not. The problem with the idea of toning is that it leads to that other stubborn myth…

Spot Training

The myth of toning is often tangled up in the myth of spot training. Someone might say, “I want to tone the back of my arms, so I’m going to do some tricep exercises.” Fine…you can (and should!) work your tricep muscles, but that isn’t going to get rid of the fat around your triceps, which is what keeps you from seeing that muscle. If you reduce your calories, lift weights and do some cardio, you CAN lose body fat. Can you lose it over your triceps? Sure you can…but only your body will decide when (or if) the fat over that particular area will go.

So, What’s the Point?

If I’ve convinced you that toning doesn’t exist and that you can’t spot train, you might be wondering why you should even bother lifting weights. If a bicep curl isn’t going to make your biceps more visible, why do it? This is where a shift in perspective needs to happen. Instead of focusing on individual body parts (i.e., I need more defined shoulders!), you need to focus on the whole body (i.e., Working my whole body–with cardio and weights–will help in my overall goals). To make this shift in perspective, it helps to know what strength training will do for you:

    * You’ll build muscle, which helps with fat loss in the long-term. A pound of muscle burns about 60 calories a day. A pound of fat burns about 5 calories a day. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn all day.
* You’ll strengthen muscles and connective tissues which helps you perform better (whether in daily activities or physical activities) and reduces risk of injury.
* You’ll preserve muscle mass as you age. We naturally lose muscle over time, unless we lift weights.
* You’ll build stronger bones.
* You’ll improve your flexibility, stability and balance.
* You’ll feel better about yourself.

Getting More Definition

After all you’ve read here, you may be wondering exactly what to do to get more definition in your body. The answer is simple: lose body fat. To lose body fat you need 3 key elements: regular cardio exercise, consistent strength training for all your muscle groups and a healthy, low-calorie diet. Check out these Weight Loss Resources for some tips on getting started.

One last note: Whatever your goal or gender, don’t be afraid of heavy weights! It takes a lot of hard work to bulk up–even men can find it difficult, never mind women (who don’t have enough testosterone to get huge muscles).

admin answers:

The first thing you should do is make sure you go to a reputable salon. In most salons you make an appointment or walk in and speak to the receptionist. You should tell the salon staff that it is your first time and they should take the time to ensure you feel comfortable and all your questions are answered.

At my salon, when you arrive for your first tan, you fill out a consent form that also asks some basic questions to determine your skin type so we have a better idea how long to set the timer for. Basically we ask for your contact information, what the natural colour of your eyes, hair and skin is, if you are on any photosensitive medications, how your skin usually reacts to the sun, etc, etc. We’ll also tell you about the lotions and how they can maximize your tanning session and then find the best lotion for you and your budget.

Once you are ready to tan, we give you a tour of the tanning room and the equipment, showing you how to use it and showing you the facilities and amenities.

As for what to wear, it is up to you. Some people tan in their underwear or bathing suits, but most tan in the nude. If you are tanning in the nude, you can cover areas that aren’t normally exposed to sun with a towel to avoid over-exposure.

The salon staff will tell you how long your first session time will be and a suggestion tanning schedule to meet your tanning goals. They’ll explain that you have to wear the professional goggles (the UV light emitted is stronger than the sun, which is why you can tan in under 20 minutes, rather than hours.)

Once the timer is up the unit will turn off and you can get dressed. Some salons require you to wipe down the bed with sanitizer, but the staff will tell you this beforehand. After that you can make another appointment or just leave.

Have fun

How Do I make my dad understand I want a career not just a job?

How Do I make my dad understand I want a career not just a job?
I am 24 years old. I have been doing seasonal work in Mallorca since I was 18. I was planning to go to Main Land Spain this Summer as I did not want to return to Mallorca. However my plans fell through. I have usually returned to a job in the winter after my stint in Mallorca. However this winter. I could not get my job back due to management changes and issues beyond my control so I signed on. As i was planning to go to Spain I worked a Part Time job in a cafe for 10 hours a week or so until the boss started to mess about and the hours and cr@p she dished out were not worth while.
When my plans of going to Spain did not work out I thought i would go spend the Summer in Skegness (I live in Bradford) with a friend. She was part way through moving house and things were going slow so I knocked that on the head.
Now I want a career not just a job. I want to get into Youth Work but it is a slow process how do I get my dad to understand. I don’t feel I am wrong at wanting a good future.
while i was in Mallorca i achived all i could and i am happy with my choices.
yes it would have been nice to settle in mallorca have a nice little job and family and that but i have always wanted more.
The way my mum talk it is like my dad will throw me out as i can not be a sucessful as him or my mum or brother. Luck has a part is sucess and in time i will fall lucky i know Rome was not built in a day.
I am sick of the tears of frustration I cry almost every day and the pain i feel when things are not sucessful but i have to keep going.
I have GCSE’s ranging from A-F City and Guilds Numeracy I know how to use a pc and the internet, I did BETC Leisure and Tourism Animation Option that is hotel entertainment and I have gone as far as i wanted to in Entertainment, I also did BTEC Overseas Operations which trained you to be a childrens rep I did as much as i could cope in that job.

Now when I left school I have no idea what I wanted to do career wise but i did not want to waste my life on dead end jobs so I did what i wanted to while i was young and gained work and life experience.

Now I know what i want to do and it is youth work or something in residential Units ( Children’s homes)
I want a career that is challenging and rewarding and i am willing to study again and volunteer but its hard to find the information as a lot comes from 3rd parties and criminal record checks take a while and the job centre are slow.

Well, first of all, I’m glad that you have the attitude that you have to keep going and you’re not giving up. That’s great! I understand how tough parents can be and they set their expectations high for their children. It sounds to me that you have an idea of what you want to do, but you’re still trying to get there. What I recommend is to sit down and write down all of your goals on a piece of paper. Create a map of what you have done and what you still have to do to get to where you want to be. Plan out your career steps and start taking them. Once you start making progress, show your parents that you are serious about what you want. Sometimes people just need to see concrete evidence that you are serious about something, and not just saying you are.

Good luck.

admin answers:

In her book, “The Greatest Management Principle in the World” Mary Kay Ash says: “There are two things people want more than sex and money . . . Recognition and praise.”

That is motivation.

Motivation is the “inner or social stimulus for an action.”

Motivation strongly affects organizational behavior. Strong motivation delivered in a group setting can improve the attitude of the group. In fact, group-wide motivational factors build on themselves — the more excited people become, the more likely that sense of excitement will spread to others in the group, creating a sense of “we’re all in this together.” This feeling of camaraderie adds another dimension to the motivating factors and increases the likelihood that a goal or task will be accomplished.

There are two kinds of motivation, as the definition above indicates: intrinsic and extrinsic.

Theories of management and work motivation distinguish between two kinds of rewards—extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic rewards are ones such as money and verbal reinforcement which are mediated outside of the person, whereas intrinsic rewards are mediated within the person. We say a person is intrinsically motivated to perform an activity if there is no apparent reward except the activity itself or the feelings which result from the activity. All of the theories of work motivation which consider both kinds of rewards assume that the effects of the two are additive.

admin answers:

1) What type of things did you learn about sex in school? It was mostly about STDs and how to protect yourself from STDs like using condoms and biological reactions involved with sex (getting an erection, climaxing and ejaculating). Interestingly, they never taught us how sex was actually done.

2) What did you learn outside of school-from friends, your parents, books?
How sex was done and different ways of doing it

3) What did your religion teach you?
I’m not really religious

4) What sorts of bad information did you get about sex?
Masturbation is bad and should never be done if you are straight. It was implied through jokes by friends

5) What do you wish someone had told you?
Everyone else is going through the same feelings that you are even if they show no signs of it.

———- optional ————-

6) How did you feel about your body changing from a child to a teenager?
The one major thing that I felt was that it was a lot easier to get aroused and erections were a extremely constant occurrence.

7) How quickly did you mature compared to your classmates?
I was always a little more on the mature side. I took things very seriously and literal most of the time.
Did you know about menstruation/ ejaculation before you experienced it?
I knew the concept of it, but didn’t quite know how to imagine it

9) Who was your first crush?
When I was in elementary school there was this Japanese girl in my class. I was also Japanese and we were the only Japanese students in a class that was majority Korean and Chinese, so somehow in my little mind I kind of put together that this might be a sign that she was someone that I could like and that developed it a crush

10) What do you wish you knew as a child or young adult that you know now?
Sex is not as scary as teachers make it seem. They always tell you about the bad consequences like STDs, pregnancy, etc. But it could be a really good thing that everyone should experience.

11) What do you think was easier and what was more difficult, about sexuality from past generation to now?
I think from the past generation, it was easier to get a legitimate education about sex. This is probably why they show videos that are outdated graphically (not content) compared to what you can find today. I think it was more difficult for people who are gay to come out and tell anyone. Today we seem so much more accepting. Before there wasn’t even a discussion about gay marriage, while today it is at least a debate.

Is it possible to change the Fabric of our Society?

Women are constantly being told to look a certain way. Look at all the cosmetic surgeries. Look at the beauty and youth industry in general.

The average girl in the United States begins dieting at Age 8.

admin answers:

Society changes all the time. Just a few generations ago a hanging was considered good family fun in this country.

As for women dieting, and your starting to see it in men too now. Plain and simple people look better when thin. How thin is thin enough to look good varies by who is looking and the the shape/bone structure/muscle type of the person being viewed. With fewer men doing taking part in sports, working labor intensive jobs and overall just not getting out much your starting to see males dieting also.

As for changing the culture unless you can rewire our brains to see beauty differently it’s not going to happen. Nor is it any healthier to not diet. On one side you have the various detrimental effects of extreme diets including anorexia, poor nutrition, anemia, etc. On the flip side those who just let themselves go suffer from diabetes, heart disease, poor mental health, back pain, higher rates of cancer, and so on.

In short being at either extreme is unhealthy for MOST people, but not all. The one thing nutritionists are completely missing is that people are different. What is good for one person is lethal for another. They are trying to slap a single model and force feed everybody into it. No wonder half the time they are reversing themselves or contradicting previous findings. For some people extremely thin is both normal and healthy. For some people it’s lethal. Some people can weigh in at 300 LBs and live for years with few health issues, most people cannot. For some it’s a crippling experience they cannot recover from.

Where you’ll have better luck is instilling healthier habits earlier than 8. Everybody should “diet” it’s just a matter of their phsyiology, goals and easily obtained foods. A weight lifter “diets” but their goal is not to lose weight it’s to bulk up. Almost nobody looks good or feels good even 20 lbs over their ideal weight. By waiting until they are 15 or 16 to try to diet they are already set in really bad eating habits which haunt them their entire life.

As for how attractive a woman is that is hard wired. Dudes are very visually oriented in that way. As long as we are a mixed gender society women will be judged by how they look to a lessor or greater extent. Short of wiping out our reproductive instincts you won’t even dent that. Even if you manage to control one of our strongest instincts and bury it. The way men and women’s brains work will place a heavier emphasis on looks when it comes to women.

So in short your barking up not only the wrong tree, your barking at a telephone pole cause you missed the forest on this one. To change what your trying to change would steal from humanity those things that make us so volatile and thus so unique. Those instincts and drives that have launched fleets, changed history over and over again and what has led to the happy union of so many humans over the ages. Remove it and we become some bland species of walking plants. I would suggest asking instead how can we safely help people manage diets for their goals and create realistic goals/ideals.

admin answers:

Practice is important but practice should be Incremental in the sense that you build on your previous drawing to show improvement in some area each time.

It also helps to Focus on one particular element till you get it right & then keep practicing till it becomes second-nature & you don’t have to Consciously Think about the lines & angles & curves.

Tutorials help a lot – from books, sites, videos,…. Invest in a couple of good art books [browse through the bookstore or online for ones that would really help you improve your weaker areas] & browse for relevant tutorials online [there are tons of very good ones; just search for "how to draw _____" & so on].

Browse through as many masters’ works as possible. Visit museums, browse online, maybe subscribe to some affordable art magazine? Try to fathom & notice how They viewed, drew, presented, composed…There is so much to learn from them that a lifetime is less. But Google Images, Bing Images, etc. Give you a whole range of artists & their works to view in the comfort of one’s home
You can start with this wonderful site : http://www.artcyclopedia.com/

Learn to see the Simple shapes & colors in whatever you want to draw. Every thing/object/person can be ‘broken down’ into very basic geometrical shapes. Once you get that, all you need to do is add the details. A very good site to learn this is : http://dragoart.com

Try to make the same drawing from different angles, different perspectives, under different light sources [direction, intensity, even color].

Sometimes, after you’ve drawn the same thing many times during practice, you may get fatigued & not be able to “see” clearly [not literally]. Leave off for a few days; keep that set aside. Come back to it afresh & you will be able to see where & what needs to be done further.

Try to find a person who will critique your drawings & give you honest feedback. Think about the feedback & ways to improve. [always consider the advice objectively & seriously, even if you end up disregarding some of it].

Finally, Always try to Enjoy what you are doing. Try to play around with angles, perspectives, styles, genres, colors, textures, values, media, …..you are still young & can build on your own Unique style & signature. But don’t fear to Experiment.

Hope some of these help
All the very best always

Set Goals!!! Write them down. Almost every expert will tell you no matter how silly it sounds… Write a list of your goals. Look at it every day. Then ask yourself how to meet those golas.
At night while laying in bed go over those goals and image yourself achieving them.
The power of positive thinking works.
To get the clutter out of your brain: Just take deep breaths in though your nose, hold for a count of six, then release though your mouth for a count of 10. Do this ten times and your brain will be relaxed.

admin answers:

You can do anything with black and white. And if you are creative than you should be all set. However, it’s important to incorporate some sort of color into your wedding – weather it’s red, pink, orange, blue, whatever. All black and white gets depressing without any color.

Here are some black and white wedding favors: You can probably make most of them yourself if you are creative.

**I also saw black and white jelly beans as favors. You could buy those (cheap) and bag them, etc yourself. That would be a big saver!

Here are some images of black and white weddings from google that may give you some ideas:

I’m so sorry that you made a simple critical error in action.
But that is behind you now, and you are seeking a way of good employment that will accept your “checkered past”.
Well, one strong suggestion I would place before you is to apply to work for some temp or temp-to-perm employment agencies. Where I’m going with this is that once you work for a company, and they see your Character Today, and like your work, attitude and such, they can inquire as to permanent employment. Being honest, you will make it known to them that you made a grevious error in your immature youth, and are no longer making such mistakes – to see you as the Person you are NOW, and the maturing you have done, and that you are focused on being a loyal, diligent, trustworthy employee. If they really like you, they WILL set that aside and allow you to go work for them.
That is what I would suggest. This way, you are already working for a company, and you are not eliminated at the resume or application stage – you are already there, in person, showing your “stuff” and that you are NOT like the person in the paperwork.
It also means that the employment/temp agency will have to accept you in the first place…so be on your very very best #1 behavior – dress professionally, talk clearly, have great eye contact, be honest (even if it hurts!!!!!!!!!!), and sell them on the “new you”.
Good luck to you! Don’t waste your time on working for a large engineering firm or police department – they run very gruesome detailed background checks, and if you sneezed, they’d find out. So, stay with the private employers – at least for the first 10 yrs for a good track record, then apply at state or federal or county agencies / governments. Time will help to clear up a lot of this old mess!

Is this a smart IT certification goal list?

I’m aiming for a job in the broad IT field, which seems to be a field I have a knack for. My interest lies in server/network database administration, handling, overseeing, etc.

So after investing hours into internet research about the usefulness of certifications, especially the MCSE, I have decided on this study path for certifications in the following order, with my goal being a job starting my career in the networking field of IT:

A+
CCNA
Network+
Server+
MCSE 2008

Those are my basic ones, but I have a few quick questions.

Is this a proper order to obtain my certifications towards my goal?

Will having all of these certifications give me a decently broad range of jobs to potentially obtain in the IT/Networking field? (Like server admin, sysadmin, database admin, network admin, etc.)

(of course, I will be working computer jobs along the way, getting as close to networking jobs as I can to work towards hands-on experience to go with the certifications.)

Is it true the MCSE 2008 is inactive, and it is now officially the MCTS Server 2008 exams, to get certified with Microsoft’s Server 2008?

Should I go for the MCITP immediately, or wait until I’ve gotten experience working in my field before going for it?

Will I probably need experience in the field before even passing the MCSE/MCTS?

Should I go for the CCNP?

Does pretty much everyone that matters use Cisco systems and hardware?
… Or whether or not they do, does knowledge in Cisco thoroughly cover general handling for most networking controllers/routers/switches?

Answering any and all as detailed as you’d like or can, will be much, much appreciated.

(I’m also considering Security+, and Linux+. Do they sound like they‘d go well with my desired career path?)

If you’re not at your genetic max, then you’re just not training properly. You’ve given no details so anything anyone can say in reply is speculation. That said, you’re probably over training.

Over training is one of the most common mistakes new bodybuilders make because new trainees tend to think more is always better. When building muscle, more is not always better. Only the right amount is better.

Building muscle is a two step process. Step one is the stimulation of growth…creating the microtrauma to the muscle by properly working it to failure. Step two is recovery time. Both steps must be accomplished properly for muscle growth. Here are the approximate recovery times for most trainees.

Note – these are only approximate. People vary widely in recovery times because of genetics and training methods/styles. Your recovery times may vary.

Beginner………..1-2 days
Intermediate……2-4 days
Advanced……….5-7 days

To find out if you’re over training, check the first set of every exercise in your routine and if you have not improved something (one more rep, better form, more resistance, etc), you may be over training. Pay attention to under performing muscle groups and if there’s no progress for three weeks try adding another day of rest (recovery time) between workouts for that muscle group. Of course, you’ll need to keep detailed records of your workouts so you can notice improvements and plateaus.

Watch this video –> http://www.youtube.com/user/scooby1961#p/search/0/Xcuhi6RaZ24 and then watch this one –> http://www.youtube.com/user/scooby1961#p/u/3/sON-SHTtVCQ

Resist the temptation to forget about step two and don’t be prodded by zeal or anxiety to return to the workouts prematurely. Remember both steps are equally important and it’s during the recovery time that the increased strength is being created. More stimulation too soon and you’ll have neutralized all or part of the previous workout.

Having accomplished your one set goal, you need to provide sufficient recovery time. This is where most people fail. As soon as you’re ready to train hard – six weeks into your prep to get past the soreness – you’ll need to determine your optimal recovery time. You do that by measuring the duration (elapsed time) of each set and the resistance. Don’t count reps. If you cannot preform for longer after your recovery period, you’re over training and need to add more time. Once you get to a 2 minute set duration you should increase the resistance. It’s better to have more recovery time than less. Studies show the residual effect of a set can last well beyond the optimal recovery time but if you don’t get to that point, the muscle cannot reach its maximum growth.

To ensure a proper warm up and maximum neural drive, perform your sets with about 20 second reps…ten for the concentric and ten for the eccentric phase. Your form MUST be perfect with no sudden thrusting movements. The muscle must be under constant tension for the duration..not lockouts and no pauses on either end. Breathing should be normal. Use a weight that is about 70-80% of the maximum you can move for each exercise. Always work toward the burn and not away from it. The whole purpose of one set is to maximize the burn until the muscle fails to complete one more full rep. At that point you can slowly allow the resistance to return to the stops or do “shorties” (partials, fractionals) until you can no longer work the muscle.

This is the HIT (High intensity training) technique pioneered by Art Jones (Inventor of Nautilus) and Dr. Ellington Darden and now used by thousands of trainers around the world. It’s the most energy efficient methodology and provides much better results than the old school Joe Weider & Arnold Schwarznegger steroid-based method of multiple sets & reps which has no foundation in science. In spite of it’s success, HIT is not used by the bodybuilding culture where great genes, bad information, and sterodis rule the day.

For more, buy this book and study it (you can skip over the heavy science stuff) –> http://www.bodybyscience.net/home.html/?page_id=18 .

One final note. Resist the desire to return to the gym prematurely. You only need to workout minutes each week…maybe 30 in the beginning. Bodybuilders who train for hours each week can get big but they waste a lot of energy and time for no good reason. Recovery is just as important to your workout and growth as training. If you train properly, eventually you’ll only need workout once every 10 days or so. And, in the mean time you can do aerobics or participate in sports and work on athletic skills, etc.

Good luck and good health!!

I find goal-setting to be a way to stay focused. Focused is good. Make lists of things you want to do today, in a week, in a year, in 10 years, and then diagram how to get there, following the steps.

What kind of foreign policy should be pursued by the Obama team in addressing Iran and N Korea?

The Tehran government is trying to suppress the people’s free speech by way of sending their police militias in full force to contain the riots. The rest of the world sides with the Iranian population and their indignation of having been cheated from an intensely awaited election. The people of Iran are young and unlike any other nation, they know when something is wrong in their system. Their time to change the government was at the verge of becoming a reality, only to be dissapointed by the mobsters that ruled their system. The Obama administration has stated that it would be carefully looking for irregularities in the election process but it hasn’t officially made any bold statements that Iran should hold a recount

In N Korea, tensions have worsened since Bush left office. We’re not seeing any drastic change in the way Obama handles the situation. Hillary R Clinton is doing her best meeting with diplomats in Canada to draft sanctions, but there seems little that she can do to turn the tide from what has already happened. The N Koreans pledge to test their missles with or without international sanctions. I really do think that the Obama team should reconsider its strategy and offer a much more hardliner approach in containing N Korean aggression

A country’s foreign policy is based on a set of goals outlining the political, social, economic, and military goals of that country as they relate to another country. To my knowledge, the Obama administration has not presented a clear foreign policy to Iran or North Korea.

In my opinion, the Obama administration cannot continue to condone the political, social, economic, and military harassment, physical assault, manipulation, and coercion by Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Ahmadinejad, or by North Korea’s Kim Jong-il.

The Obama administration must stand strong. Economic sanctions will have little effect on Iran or North Korea. Socially, the people of Iran nor North Korea have any connection to the U.S.; politically, there is no comparison. The one common denominator Iran, North Korea, and the U.S. Have is the military.

I didn’t vote for Obama because I didn’t think he had the experience or fortitude to confront and take action against those who would threaten the U.S. Or any of our allies. To date, I think my assessment has been “on target”.

How easily do disability and/or Medicaid benefits transfer when one moves to another state?

This year I am going to be moving my mother to another state (to where I live). She is disabled and on Medicaid, and she is in the process of getting a lawyer for Social Security benefits. We have set a goal of moving her by the end of the year, and we have a small nest egg to get her started. However, I want to make sure we can put her benefits to work for her, so her money worries are as minimal as possible. Is the process of transferring her benefits from one address to another a big worry? Can we apply her benefits to housing if she is a new state resident? I would like to find a decent assisted living apartment for her.
PS: My mother will be moving from Indiana to Illinois.

admin answers:

Both disability and Medicaid are Federal Govt benefits and don’t come from individual states so it would be easy to transfer, you would just notify the Social security office as to change of address.

If you are talking about some sort of state aid, that would be different.

As far as housing, that IS a state benefit, and many have long waiting lists. In Iowa it can be 2 years or more.
