Questions About Goal Setting Exercises

Helen asks…

Is this realistic or am I setting my goal a little too high?

I started the p90x program last week and am currently doing weight watchers. Is it possible to lose 20-30 pounds in 5 weeks? Or should I add some other kind of exercise in this routine? Thanks!

I think thats a bit too high. It may take 4 to 5 months. Oh and just do more walking cause P90X is alot of stuff already to do

Paul asks…

Looking to lose between 50-75 lbs in the next 12-15 weeks… more to come, just setting a start off goal?

I just started going to the gym this past Mon doing 30-45 min of cardio on a stationary bike (going to start running in a few weeks once I’m a little more in shape) and will be doing that 5 days a week, as well as cutting down calories to 1200 – 1350 a day. I’m coming from poor eating habits and practically no exercise so I’ve definitely hit the ground running. I’ve been told by others it’s most certainly possible if I keep the routine up but I was looking for a second (or third) opinion as well as advice to maximize results. I have a ways to go and although I’m nowhere near in great shape, I’m young, enthusiastic about changing my life and definitely not a lost cause. Any info or words will be of great help. Thanks!!

Wow!!! Congrats on the decision…well i myself also joined the gym about 3 months ago… And since then i have lost tons of weight… It wasnt easy nor quick… (there’s really no quick way to lose it). So i can only tell you not to lose hope, always have a strong positive attitude… And have lots of self willingness =) .here are some work out that i do at the gym (now this is by the way what i follow, you can do your own if you want but i found it very helpful with my weight loss)
stretching and bending (of course we all know that)
i go on the bike for 10 mins then do the eleptical for 45 mins to an hour. Then i would go to the stair master for another 15 mins (i do this for 3x a week, it doesnt matter which day of the week but i just make sure i do it 3x)
then i join classess like latin impact (L.A. Fitness) for an hour 2x a week
hip hop for 45 mins 2x a week
and of course the biggest thing of it all… Eating habit needs to change.
I no longer eat rice (im a filipina and we love rice for breakfast lunch and dinner, plus them fatty sides…. Lolz)
i substitute 4 pieces of crackers for my rice, i eat lots of cucumber (it fills you up really good) i always drink water, i eat 4-6 baby carrots every 4 hours. I stayed away from chocolates and soda… So yeah diet and exercise is all that you need… I hope this helped =) more power to you and God bless you!!! Keep up the good work!!! Wish you all the best!!! I’m right there with you on this one

Maria asks…

When setting a fitness/weight loss goal?

Do you find it more helpful to set a weight goal or a size goal? I am exercising 45 minutes a day (not loving it but, you know, it’s better than dying) and eating healthier. I am 5’7″. I don’t wish to be thin or skinny, my goal is be at a healthy weight. I’ve been overweight most of my life (I’m 34). My question is should I set my goal at x-number of pounds or a dress size (I am currently at 230 lbs wearing a size 20…although a little loosely in the last several weeks)? And what would be a healthy goal?

Thanks for your advice and input!

admin answers:

A healthy BMI for someone that is 5’7″ is approximately 120-155 lbs. If I were you I would shoot for about 150 for now. Good luck

Daniel asks…

How many pounds would be possible to lose in 3 weeks and what would be the way to reach that goal?

But not “crazy” diets, please!! Would be possible to lose some weight in such short period of time if I use health ways such as diet and exercises?
Maybe to exercise one hour a day and change my nutrition habits to something healthier??

I need to set a goal but I want to be realistic about it!!

Thanks for your help!!

admin answers:

Its healthy to lose 2 pounds a week.

But honestly, dang you can loose more if you just eat better
the most iv lost was like 7 pounds in a week

Steven asks…

Can someone help me set goals over the next 6 months?

I always struggle to set goals. its easy to set goals like exercise twice a week. I mean goals over the next 3 to 6 month – that will challenge and improve my life.

1. Exercise Lose another 14 Pounds and add weight Training to exercise regime.
2. Commit and to an hour a day learning another language.

I’d like to set other goals like get a promotion, but these things seem beyond my control.

Could I get examples of other goals, that might inspire me.

admin answers:

On top of what you have already
1 learn to play a musical instrument
2 get fit
3 commit to a dietary plan
